Our mission with this site is to help enable people with ALS to be able to continue to make memories with their families. Traveling with ALS is difficult, complicated, and expensive. We want to raise money and miles to make a dream trip possible for Erik Thompson and his family.
The Thompson family is planning to make the trip to Japan this spring. Because of the complications that come from living with ALS, making the long flight will be extremely difficult if Erik cannot lay down. A first class ticket for Erik will be a necessity, not a luxury. We hope to raise enough money to help cover the cost of a first class ticket.
It’s more than just a trip
Meet Erik Thompson
Erik is a father of three boys and husband to the love of his life, Skye. He’s coached football for 29 years and is currently the head football coach at Ogden High School.
Erik was diagnosed with ALS in 2021. ALS, also called Lou Gehrigs Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the body.
ALS has taken both of Eriks arms. It will progress through the rest of his body.

Our Purpose
Since his diagnosis, the Thompson family has been focusing on creating memories together while Erik can travel.
Erik served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Japan. It’s been a dream of his to take his family to Japan and show them where he served and meet some of the Japanese people that he loved so much.

Meet Emma and Sophie
We are seniors at Fremont High School and we have been working on a marketing project this semester. We knew that we wanted to try and help someone in real life with our project. We both have had personal experiences, that combined together, have influenced this project.
This is personal to me, because I have experienced the impact of someone else’s generosity that has allowed me to create priceless memories with my family. My Dad flew F-15s in the Air-force. He was killed in the line of duty when I was two years old. A military charity called Snowball Express has made it possible for me, my mom and sisters to create memories with other Gold Star Families. They would take us on an all expense paid trip in December, to help bring joy during a season that is usually bittersweet. This trip meant so much to me, and I made memories with my family that I will never forget. To an outsider, this experience might just look like a fun trip, but to every Gold Star Family involved, it was so much more. This experience helped my family feel less alone, and feel like people cared about us and our sacrifice. I want to help another family feel as special and seen as we felt.
Sophie’s Story
This is personal to me because traveling has always been something very special to my family and I. Six years ago my Dad starting working out of state and traveling home on the weekends. While doing this so often we have built up miles and realize how special traveling really is, and we value the time spent together. We have been so fortunate to have a large number of frequent flyer miles. Because of these miles, my Dad is often upgraded to a first-class seat. On the plane, he often keeps an eye out for people who look like they could use a flight in first-class. He has always showed me how important it is to give back, and serve others. Watching his example of kindness throughout my life gives me hope that there are others out there wanting to help.
